Liberty closed the Asbury coal plant in spring of 2020. An impoundment is located at the former Asbury site for coal combustion residuals (CCR). Riverton CCR Rule Compliance Data and Information
Liberty ceased burning coal on Sep 18, 2012, at the Riverton Power Station facility. On Aug 23, 2013, closure construction activities for the Riverton Industrial Landfill began under Kansas Department of Health & Environment (KDHE) Permit 784. Construction was completed May 22, 2014. KDHE approved closure on Jun 30, 2024, and entered into Post-Closure Care. On July 31, 2018, the demolition of the remaining coal-fired boilers of the Riverton Power Station was completed and the site improvements were completed to reclaim the area. CCR is no longer produced at this site. As required by the Environmental Protection Agency's CCR Rule, this page provided information related to compliance, inspections and actions regarding the CCR Management Unit (CCRMU).
