Oh, “watt” a difference energy efficiency can make.

Liberty recently presented a check for $40,480.30 to Joplin Schools – funds the district qualified for through a rebate program for energy-efficient upgrades. The district completed two projects in 2023 which will result in savings of approximately 500,000 kWh annually, says Gregory Holm, Liberty’s Energy Efficiency Program Coordinator.

“Liberty greatly appreciates the relationship with Joplin Schools,” Holm says. “Leveraging Liberty’s Energy Efficiency program can help school districts save on construction costs and ultimately makes more dollars available to meet students’ educational needs.”

The classroom lighting system at South Middle School was replaced with LED lights; a total of 925 fixtures were replaced, says Dave Pettit, Facilities Director for Joplin Schools.

“The LED replacements allowed us to reduce the number of fixtures as well as reduce energy usage,” he says. “The project also brought brighter lighting for the classroom spaces.”

Joplin Schools also worked with its HVAC vendor to install new thermostats that measure temperature, humidity, and CO2 levels, as well as additional equipment to lower energy usage and costs while improving the air quality within district buildings

“We appreciate Liberty being a part of these projects,” says Pettit. “It has helped us be able to make them even better by using less taxpayer money and enhance the overall scope of our projects.”
