Liberty Requests Voluntary Energy Conservation for its Natural Gas Customers until 5 p.m. Saturday, December 24, 2022

Call to conserve issued by Southern Star Central Gas Pipeline for all utilities it serves to help maintain reliable service

Sedalia, Missouri – Southern Star Central Gas Pipeline, one of Liberty’s interstate gas pipeline suppliers, has requested that utilities served by its pipeline call for voluntary energy conservation. Extreme winter weather and subzero temperatures have caused peak demand and limited supply on the pipeline, potentially impacting the utilities it serves. To help maintain reliable gas service, Liberty asks customers in Clinton, Henrietta, Leeton, Lexington, Marshall, Nevada, Platte City, Rich Hill, Richmond, Sedalia, Tracy, and Weston, Missouri to voluntarily reduce energy use from now until 5 p.m., Saturday, December 24.

Customers can conserve energy by taking the following steps:

  • Set thermostats to 65 degrees or as low as comfortable. Customers who are elderly or have medical conditions complicated by the cold should not lower their thermostat.
  • Turn down the setting on your natural gas hot water heater to 120 degrees
  • Conserve hot water. Take shorter showers and wash only full loads in dishwashers and clothes washers. Postpone these activities if possible.

“We know that conserving energy during this time can be inconvenient,” said Mike Beatty, Liberty vice president, gas operations. “We are so grateful to our customers for their help in conserving energy. Together, we can help maintain reliable service to homes, businesses, and critical facilities throughout these extreme weather conditions. We continue to stay in close communication with our pipeline transporter and natural gas supplier and our crews continue to work around the clock to keep our system operating reliably.”
