Gas Restoration Update

3 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2025

Today, crews began restoring service to the approximately 990 customers remaining in area 3. They are working as quickly as they safely can and will work into tonight and start back early again tomorrow.

For residents whose property may have been impacted, we have set up a claims contact and process. Please call 877-379-0917 or email libertyutilitiesclaims@us.crawco.com for help with this.

Three reminders for today:

  • If you are not home when our crews arrive to restore your gas service, they will leave a door tag with a phone number to call to schedule a crew to return.
  • It is not necessary to leave a porch light on after dark (but we certainly welcome it).
  • For your safety, if you smell gas, you should leave the area immediately and call 911 or our gas emergency line at 1-800-406-9220.

We are making steady progress and won’t stop until every customer is back on. Thank you again for your patience (and a special thank you to the middle school staff for the delicious cinnamon roll delivery to the hard-working crews this morning – the “sweet” gesture was greatly appreciated!).

8:30 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2025

Today the focus of our work remained on our system in area 3, and our team made great progress. We are pleased to share that our current plan is to begin service restorations in area 3 in the morning. We expect to have most customers restored by end of day Wednesday, with some restoration efforts continuing into Thursday (or as long as needed for customers who may be away from home). Thank you again for your patience as we took this necessary time for the safety of our customers, crews, and all those supporting our restoration efforts.

Please remember that to complete service restoration, crews must go home to home to turn on gas meters. Crews will need access to the inside of the home so that they can perform a safety check of natural gas appliances once the gas meter has been turned back on. If you are not home when our crews arrive to restore your gas service, they will leave a door tag with a phone number to call to schedule a crew to return.

For your safety, if you smell gas, you should leave the area immediately and call 911 or our gas emergency line at 1-800-406-9220.

2:05 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2025

Liberty crews continue working to restore gas service to our more than 1,900 Lexington customers. As of this morning, service has been restored to approximately 939 homes and businesses in the area.

We thank the Lexington community for their continued patience, understanding and all their kind words and gestures for our crews that are working to safely restore service as quickly as possible. We are also grateful for the valued support and cooperation of our partners, including Lexington police, fire, and City staff, who continue working day and night with us to support restoration.

9:30 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 2025

Today Liberty crews continued to focus on service restoration in areas 1 and 2 (see map), with more than 930 homes and business restored as of 7 p.m. We expect to complete these areas today for customers who are home and available for our crews to perform a safety check of natural gas appliances once the gas meter has been turned back on. If you are not home when our crews arrive, they will leave a door tag with a phone number to call to schedule a crew to return.

For area 3, we continue work to further validate the integrity of the system. This is ongoing and is currently expected to delay service restoration efforts. We know this is not news our customers want to hear, but your safety and the safety of our crews must be our first and utmost priority.

Tonight, our crews continue to restore the few remaining customers in areas 1 and 2. We will know more tomorrow and will work to provide an updated estimated restoration time for remaining customers as soon as possible.

Thank you for your continued patience as we take these necessary steps.

12 p.m. Sunday, April 13, 2025

Good afternoon, Lexington. Service restoration in areas 1 and 2 continued this morning and will continue into the afternoon. After this morning’s 6:30 a.m. safety huddle, crews were back in the neighborhoods going door to door. As of 11 a.m., we have restored more than 810 homes and businesses.

So many amazing partners are working day and night and throughout the weekend to support restoration, including Lexington’s police, fire, and city personnel and others. The strength, spirit, and generosity of this community have also been on display – from surprise pancake breakfast deliveries to our crews to words of encouragement shouted from passing cars to kind messages through social media. It means more than you know to our boots on the ground and the dozens of team members supporting them from behind the scenes.

Reminder: to complete service restoration, crews must go home to home to turn on gas meters. Crews will need access to the inside of the home so that they can perform a safety check of natural gas appliances once the gas meter has been turned back on. If you are not home when our crews arrive to restore your gas service, they will leave a door tag with a phone number to call to schedule a crew to return.

Service restoration is in full swing today. Brett and Jason from Kirksville, Missouri - pictured early this morning as they prepared to head out from our Henrietta Service Center after the morning safety huddle – are two of dozens of Liberty operations and safety team members working in the community to restore gas service quickly and safely. Our crews will work throughout the day and late into this evening.

Also pictured is a Lexington map showing the three restoration areas. Service restoration in areas 1 and 2 is underway now. Once that is complete, our crews will move to area 3. At this time, we still anticipate service restoration to continue through Monday.

As a reminder, to complete service restoration, crews must go home to home to turn on gas meters.

Our crews would like to extend a thank you to the Lexington community for your patience and the many kind and encouraging words you’ve shared with them.

7 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2025

Liberty crews completed their work to shut off approximately 2,000 gas meters – a necessary safety step to prepare for service restoration. This afternoon, crews also completed repairs. The next step is to introduce gas back into the system. This work is underway, and we are beginning to restore service to customers.

Please note: The service restoration process will take approximately three days to complete. Once we restore gas to our system, crews must then go home to home to turn on gas meters. Crews will need access to the inside of the home so that they can perform a safety check of natural gas appliances once the gas meter has been turned back on.

Our crews start early each day and work late into the evening. It is not necessary or required to leave a porch light on after dark. If you are not home when our crews arrive to restore your gas service, they will leave a door tag with a phone number to call to schedule a crew to return.

Our crews are working as quickly as possible to safely restore service for customers. We appreciate your patience as they work. For your safety, if you smell gas, you should leave the area immediately and call our gas emergency line at 1-800-406-9220.

10:15 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2025

Liberty crews worked into the evening yesterday and were back at it early this morning. Crews from across our service area have joined the response efforts. Today they will continue going home to home throughout the community, shutting off gas meters. This is an initial step in our restoration process and an important safety measure. We expect this work to continue throughout today.

We continue to work closely with local officials and regulatory agencies, who are on site. The investigation is ongoing, and we are not yet able to access the site of the incident. Once we have permission to access the site, we can begin repairs on the system. As such, we do not yet have an estimated service restoration time. Please continue to watch our Facebook page and website for updates.

We thank you for your patience. For customer service inquiries, please call 1-800-424-0427. For emergencies, please call 1-800-406-9220.

3:30 p.m Thursday, April 10 2025: Service update from Liberty to Lexington, Mo., gas customers

While our goal is to restore service as quickly as possible, we want to make our customers aware that this may be an extended outage. Until we know more through the ongoing investigation, we cannot provide exact restoration times. We have multiple crews on the ground assisting our efforts. Restoring gas service is a multi-stage process and will take some time to perform. We have just under 2,000 customers currently without service. At this time, crews are going from home to home, turning off gas meters, an initial step in the restoration process.

We will continue to post updates on our website as we know more. We thank our customers and partners for their patience as we work through this process.

Liberty crews are on scene working closely with officials to respond to the situation. The safety and wellbeing of our customers and communities remains our highest priority. We ask customers to be understanding about this necessary disruption of service. We will provide information on restoration efforts, as we know them, on this page.
