If you’ve chosen to opt out of a smart meter, you may need to read your meter and submit readings to help ensure your bill is accurate. Most customers do not need to read their meter. This is only required if you have opted out of a smart meter or have been asked to provide a reading.
When to read your meter
You can find your next meter reading date on your bill.

Electric meter
Digital electric meters display a series of screens that scroll automatically.
How to read your electric meter:
- Watch for the screen labeled “d1” in the upper left corner
- “d1” represents your delivered energy (kWh used)
- Write down the number displayed
How to calculate your usage:
Your meter does not reset each month. To calculate usage:
Current reading – Previous reading = Energy used
You can find your previous reading:
- On page 2 of your bill
- Above the “What am I paying for?” section

Gas meter
Gas meters may be dial-based or digital.
Dial Meter (Analog)
- Dials move in alternating directions
- Read from left to right
- Record the number each dial is pointing to
- If the dial is between numbers, record the lower number
Digital Gas Meter
- Displays numbers similar to a car odometer
- Simply record the full number shown

Water meter
Water meters are typically located outdoors.
- Look for an odometer-style display
- Record the numbers shown (gallons used)
Current reading – Previous reading = Energy used

Submit your meter reading
To help ensure accurate billing, submit your reading before your scheduled read date.
